Audio Texture Radio Show - February 24, 2014

Soul, dub madness, hip hop and Brazil dominate this weeks show kicking off with a track from the excellent debut album from Gabriel Garzon-Montana which has been on repeat all week and is highly recommended. Hollie Cook then took the soul and gave it a Prince Fatty riddim, look out for her new album coming on Mr. Bongo later this year. We couldn't resist playing the kookly little dub from the new Kalbata & Mixmonster single which led into the crazy dub techno vibes of Martijn Comes, closely followed by the analogue dub vibes of "Robert Rental" a taster from Ekoplekz's excellent album coming in March on Planet Mu.

Modern Brazilian vibes then ensued from the ever interesting Kassin, look out for his self released modern day Tropicalia vibes from his Bandcamp page. Some nice underground hip hop joints were then the order of the day kicking off with Stainless Steele and his contribution to an excellent Sun Ra sampling themed compilation, on our label discovery of the week, Cosmic Compositions. Check out their whole catalogue if you like your beats deep. A new Homeboy Sandman and Paul White collaboration was next, continuing Homboy's fine run of recent form before the no nonsense approach of Joe Kickass got things moving. Tunde Olaniran then added his unique flavour before the ever listenable Essa finished off the hip hop vibes for the night.

The new Turtle track, "The Opposite of Low" added another Bandcamp discovery to the show and the platform is increasingly playing a large part in our music discovery process, they really seem to be heading in the right direction, if you haven't checked it make sure you do. Just to prove the point we then played a Bandcamp only available taster of the new Meta Meta album from Mais Um Discos before another track from the wonderful Kassin album closed the show.

Audio Texture Radio Show - February 17, 2014

A nice mish mash of styles this week which all seemed to segue together quite pleasingly kicking off with some sunshine jazz funk vibes from Brazil, courtesy of MUV before Aisha Mars supplied some deep, instrumental, soul music from the great Bamalovesoul compiled On Deck 2 from the BBE crew, a great little collection of fresh nu-soul flavours, mostly from artists I've never heard of, which makes it even better. Blludd Relations then dubbed up the Owiny Sigoma Band to good effect which led nicely into Jameszoo's unrecognisable remix of the great Awanto 3's Afro house banger, "Su What? which we previewed on last weeks show.

Hip Hop was then the order of the day with 3 stylistically different takes on the genre kicking off with Jack Dice's rude, yet modern, take with some help from the great vocal talent of Stash Marina. Joe Kickass laid down a more traditional sounding cut from his forthcoming album on Project Mooncircle before Cat Claw & The Better Love Crew took us right back to the early days for a glimpse of what hip hop once was. The long dark percussive dub of Afrobuddha's "Zone" then swerved the show into new territory before Georgia's, "Spirit House" kept the dub but added a twist or two.

Quality roots reggae is in short supply these days so it is nice to see Kalbata & Mixmonster keeping it real with their new track, "Prisoner In Love" soon to be released on Freestyle which paved the way for some more nu-soul, firstly from Jevon Reynolds - another tune from On Deck 2 before the sweet tones of Joya Mooi gave the show another soul injection. Diversity in house then finished the show with the soulful vibes of Omar and Positive Flow before the darker techno soul of Vaghe Stelle finished the show off nicely.

Audio Texture Radio Show - February 10, 2014

Xtrngr from the excellent Mad Hop Bandcamp compilation got the show rolling in atmospheric style before "Secret Garden" from Snow Ghosts, a curve ball, from the normally club orientated Houndstooth label, kept the dreamy vibe but added some lovely vocals and paved the way for more of the same from the very talented Otti Albietz, fresh on BBE Records. We then dug out some Forest Swords from last year to add some leftfield dub flavour to procedings which set the show up nicely for "Love Theme From Foreverness", the mellowest cut from the nice new Illumsphere album out now on Ninja Tunes.

More deep twisted dub was then provided by Downliners Sekt and bodes really well for their forthcoming album on Infine, bring it on is all we can say. 52 Commercial Road then provided some melodic post rock to procedings before Michael Kiwanuka waded in with this trade mark throwback soul vibes. We liked Reggie B's "Addictive" tune from his album so much we were even excited to get the 12" instrumental last week from the ever consistent Tokyo Dawn crew and thought we'd drop it again to celebrate volume 4 of their excellent The Boogie compilation series.

Next up was Dead Heat with some fine slo-mo house business before Dead Heat dubbed up the show once more with one of the deeper cuts from his great new EP soon to drop on Infinite Machine. Werkha then came through with some great chopped up soulful beats before Awanto 3's, soon to be immense on every discerning dancefloor, "Su What?" dropped - wow, what a tune! Clap! Clap! then kept the twisted Afro vibes rolling before Revolution Francaise completed this weeks selection in fine disco style, courtesy of the nice French boys, Favourite Recordings.
