Audio Texture Radio Show - May 19, 2014

A nice Brazilian start to this weeks show kicking off with two tracks from the new Gilles Peterson produced project Sonzeira, crack musicians, great tune selection, no filler, go get it. Sandalia de Prata then chipped in with some feelgood samba soul from the great Sambossica compilation #4, available from Afrobaile records. Daniel Crawford was next up with a tune from his well executed cut and paste Fela Kuti tribute mixtape before The Elder Statesman smoothed things out with some great mellow jazz vibes from their double A side new 7" on Bastard Jazz. Smooth soul from another new Bandcamp discovery, Jordan Rakei, then followed and further highlighted how much great new soul music is coming out of Australia at the moment.

Fatima was next up, equally as soulful but with adarker undertone and if you needed any further encouragement to check her new album then "Talk" should have done the job. Sean Pineiro then made his second appearance in as many weeks on the show but this time with some assistance from a very nice Daisuke Tanabe remix. By the time you are reading this the Quasi Dub Development will finally be out after we've been teasing you with a number of tracks over the previous weeks and it's probably going to be the dub album of the year, go check.

Next up weretwo beat makers with depth and a sense of adventure, kicking off with two conjoined Psymun tracks the otherworldly spacescape, "Cold In Here" which merged with the more traditional hip hop beats of "Kool Aid". We then headed back into more abstract beat territory with a teaser for the new Olof Melander album, forthcoming on Project Mooncircle, trust us the albu is goo. Throwback boogie sounds then upped the tempo with Reggie B providing the vocals on Inkswel's, "So Over It" from the welcome digital release program of the Hot Shot Sound's catalogue. The shouty M.A. BEAT! then provided some warm, wobbly electronica which led nicely into Lone's, balearically charged, "Aurora Northern Quarter". Mombi then kept the vibes deep and meaningful before 4AM finished the show in upbeat, leftfield UK Garage style.

Audio Texture Radio Show - May 5, 2014

It's not often we devote 20% of the show to one tune but the Theo, Dego & Akwasi remix of A Race Of Angels really is worth it, Parrish's Wild Heart recordings is just going from strength to strength. It must have been Dego's influence in Blu James' "Stare Into The Truth" which made it such a logical choice as the next track - great soulful, broken beat vibes and a very promising start to this new label, Ten50. The soulful vibes just kept on flowing with west coast dons, The Decoders covering the classic "Respect" to great effect. If you are going to cover a killer tune make sure you do it right like these guys.

An electronic mix up selection then ensued with the cut up glitchy vibes of Sean Piñeiro closely followed by the great Tim Shiel remix of Aussie muso, Luke Howard. Molo then provided some lovely soulful, dreamy vibes before Ghost Kwini waded in and roughed things up with "Netscape Navigator" forthcoming on Sonic Router. We then dropped another Quasi Dub Development tune in anticipation of their album release later this month, it probably will be the dub album of the year. More Bandcamp business followed from the very nice Spacedtime album and highlighted yet another young producer heading in the right direction and taking business matters into their own hands by self releasing on Bandcamp.

Hip hop was then the order of the day and an early taste of the new Guts EP, another winner from Heavenly Sweetness. Shawn Lee then upped the tempo, injected some boogie and old school lyricial flow, look out for his hip hop leaning album on BBE dropping soon. Now Luaka Bop have commissioned a heap of remixes for William Onyeabor and the respectful, contagious Whatever rework of the classic, "Body & Soul" is the undoubted winner. Some classy, building house music then ended the show courtesy of Strategy from his great new EP on 100% Silk
