Audio Texture Radio Show - June 16, 2014

One of those old soul boys who are still doing it, Lee Fields, kicked off the show this week with a track from this new album out on Truth and Soul which paved the way nicely for some woefully short, yet super souful, beats from the one and only Madlib. Lone then also pitched in at a hip hop tempo, something he is more than familiar with, with a cut from his new, pleasingly ecletic, album - Reality Testing on R&S. Bandcamp was the discovery platform for the next two tracks, firstly the smooth, soulful beats of Ju-Ar and then the Brazilian flavoured, "Onda" from Talib Kweli's new label signing, Niko Is.

Some jazz was then the order of the day with a track from the ever reliable Matthew Halsall and his Gondwana Orchestra and their beautiful, heartfelt tribute track to spiritual jazz legend, Alice Coltrane, you can hear they meant it. Now Dakota Suite are about to drop a new album on Karaoke Kalk in a couple of weeks and we picked out "Commiting To Uncertainty" to showcase the album joys, though the rest of the tracks are more downtempo and vocal, but we promise you it is another winner from the boys - seek and buy! Alphabets Heaven then changed the vibe with the deep cinematic spacescape of "Astral Trails" before Matthewdavid got all hip pop and Bob Moses dropped, what deserves to be one of biggest tunes in the Balearic scene this year, "I Ain't Gonna Be The First To Cry"

We couldn't resist dropping another track from the excellent Fhloston Paradigm album which has been on repeat around the office now for several weeks before we unleashed some brand new Floating Points material with the excellent, slow grooving, "King Bromeliad". Shanghai Den then changed the vibe with the dark, bass heavy, delights of "The Sun" before another Bandcamp discover, Magical Mistakes, ended the show in fine, if slightly moody, techno style.

Audio Texture Radio Show - June 9, 2014

Less tracks, long grooves, heavy on the electronica with a dash of global flavour pretty much sums up this weeks show. El Mahdy Jr. kicked things off with his trademark blend of moody Arabic vibes and deep bass before global warrior Filastine pitched in with the percussive dancefloor winner "Requiem 532" which, alongside the rest of the promo EP, are boding very well for the new album later this year. We then headed into some deep dub techno territory from Maxim Wolzyn's quality, forthcoming album before Teleseen reignited the global vibe with his excellent remix of "Medinana". A cheeky reedit then somehow found it's way into the show with Tahira from Brazil adding her country's vibes to that of the Ivory Coast to great effect.

Glass Eyes the contributed his other worldly electronic sensibility to the show before wAgAwAgA deconstructed and then reinvented the world of vintage reggae to quite mental effect, if wobbly and weird is your bag, check his new EP on Broken Bubble. Vakula then came up trumps, as usual with a deep, slo-mo remix of Jon McMillion's "Climbing Out". K15 then provided the electronic jazz fusion before Greymatter laid down the proper deep house vibes, paving the way for the house sounds of Detroit recreated by a young lad from Manchester called Dan Shake. Bodhi and George The Poet then laid down some hip house for 2014 before Eric Lau & Taiwah ended the show on a sweet modern soul vibe.

Audio Texture Radio Show - June 2, 2014

Bass lines and beats kicked off this weeks show with Jah Wobble, the Larry Heard meets Hip Hop meets Juke sounds of Traxman and then the darker dubbed out breakbeats of DNN and no talking from me for three tracks either, can't be bad. The more traditional dub sounds of The Lions vs The Dub Club then dropped the tempo and paved the way for the nice jazz beats of Sol Monk, a great live drummer meets producer project out of Tel Aviv.

More straight up jazz then ensued, this time from Fatima and the absolutely wonderful "Do Better" taken from her debut album. The new Taylor McFerrin album is now out on Brainfeeder and is a great listen, start to finish, but we particularly like "Already There" which enlists the undoubted talents of Robert Glasper & Thundercat. The Ambient Jazz Ensemble are a great new jazz group from the UK with a great album about to drop and "Hallucinogenic" is the first track of several tracks. If you are having trouble coping with the interminable wait between Cinematic Orchestra albums then they could well be your saviour.

Now Actress is, generally speaking, not one of our favourite artists but we have to say he has killed it with his remix of Kelis', "Rumble". Coco Bryce then waded in with a nice slice of hip hop from his forthcoming self released, old school rave meets hip hop, project. We are happy to report Reginald Omas Mamode IV is back with a new EP and "You Know Better" with its tropical shuffle is a wonderful thing. The Sonzeira remixes, of which we are sure there will be many,  have just started to drop and Mark E has got the ball rolling with a great version of "Aquarela Do Brasil". Electric Wire Hustle also make a welcome release return this week with a new EP, two originals and two remixes, and everyone is a winner. This led nicely into a track from the imminent Fhloston Paradigm album on Hyperdub, big up King Britt and his decade spanning, chameleon like, production talents. My Dry Wet Mess ended the show with "Twos Too" from his great new EP coming soon on the, increasingly, interesting Fine Grains record label, keep your eyes on them..
